Competition for Photographer of the Year is stiff. Clearly, the third and last competition of the year will be the deciding factor. The competition will take place on October 18th, at the Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale. The deadline for entries is 7:00 pm, no exceptions. October 2006

President's Message

Home Stretch

It’s hard to believe that a month from now will mark a year that I have served as President of PPGF.  I’m in the home stretch of my presidency and what a ride it has been.  As anyone knows, however, races are not won in the home stretch.  They’re won at the finished line.

For all practical purpose this month’s Guild Print Education (Print Competition) demarcates the finish line for all members.  At the conclusion of this final meeting each member’s participation within the activities of the guild will be taken into consideration for the coveted and distinguish Photographer of The Year Award.

In November those members who are candidates to receive an award will be honored during our Annual Awards Banquet to be held at McFatter Vocational in Davie.  I’m looking forward to the banquet because last year the Guild was unable to support this event.  Many photographers who had worked hard to rise to the top in 2005 did not get the recognition or awards they deserved to receive.  This was an unfortunate situation that the Executive Board could not overcome, however the 2006 officers have made preparations well in advance so that this event would happen.

With that said we are anticipating a great turnout for the dinner and awards ceremony.  This is a family event and each photographer should invite his/her family and friends to attend so they can give support during the award ceremony.  How gratifying it will be to accept an award in the presence of your love ones.  Let’s return to my statement about the “home stretch”.

Print Competition.  This is the final opportunity for you to make a statement about your photographic prowess and to shore up your bid for an award.  There are at least 10 awards waiting in the wings for anyone to go for.  More importantly, at the top of the list are the President’s Award (chosen by the President), Bobby Becker Award (1st Place), Pappy Hinman Award (2nd Place), and the Marcel and Sylvia Moino Award (3rd Place).  Rules and forms for print competition are listed on the website, and I must remind you that prints and albums delivered after the 7PM deadline will be disqualified.  If you would like to drop off a case or submission to my studio prior to the meeting, I will be glad to transport it to the competition.  Contact me at (954) 921-7959 to make arrangements.

Good luck and go for it!

Willie L. Hill, Jr., CPP, President

Salon Competition

With two salon competitions under our belt the race for the Photographer of the Year has taken shape. Clearly, this month's competition will make a huge difference in the results. But salon competition is only a part of the equation as points are earned for attendance, participation, and service to the association. Regardless, the October competition presents the opportunity for others to move into the Top 10. The resuts for salon to date are as follows:
