My Little Corner of the World

Kirk Kief, F.P.P. Dir. Communication

One of the key assets to any successful organization is good communications. And, we, are striving to improve our communications with you, the members of the F.P.P.

Most of you have received emails from me recently, The email addresses for these mailings came from the FPP database. After the first mailing, I received over sixty addresses returned as undeliverable. I encourage all FPP members to go to the FPP website and do a 'Member Search' on yourself to check the info that is listed. If your listing needs to be updated email me at Kirk@kiefphoto.com.

Another item... One of the side benefits that I get through the functions that I perform for NancyBell Hamilton's Salon Committee, is a CD of all the merit prints that I use for the Awards Banquet Slide Show. I thought it would be neat if we could make these images available for all members to study and help improve their own photography?"

At the last Board Meeting, the Governing Board adopted a resolution to do exactly that! All members that renew their membership before January 31st, and all New Members, will receive this CD as a benefit of membership. Plus, this CD will also contain the prior years issues of 'Let's Make Money'.

If you are like most photographers and procrastinate beyond the January 31st cut off date, the CD is available for purchase, and all proceeds will go to the Scholarship Fund! This will start with the merit prints from this year's convention, and next years membership renewal. Is this Cool, or What?

If anyone has any questions, suggestions, or extra money that you want me to hide from the IRS for you, give me a call, or, email. (386)325-0611 or Kirk@kiefphoto.com

PPGF Digital Imaging Trade Show - April 7, 2003

On April 7th, the PPGF held it's second Digital Trade Show. Based on input from the first show, this show was bigger and better than the first. One of the bigges differences was that the seminars were held in separate breakout rooms. Who could have known how popular the seminars were to be. Many of the attendees arrived at 10:00 in the morning and stayed until the show closed at 6:00 pm.

The vendors were very generous, donating more than $3,000 in door prizes. There were drawings held almost hourly and there were happy faces all around.

For many, this event represented the best $25 that they had spent in a long time. In many cases, the attendees received much more than the cost of admission is door prizes and in knowledge gained in the seminars. Several of the attendees have joined PPGF.

Many thanks to the vendors and to the trade show committee for making this event a success!

April Program - "All the Things About Digital Photography Your Mother Never Told You About" with J. R. van Lienden

Many thanks to J. R. van Lienden for his educational and informative program about digital imaging. As most will acknowledge, making the transition from film to digital is a big step. So, why recreate the wheel?

J. R. made the transition to digital several years ago, starting by scanning his film on an Imacon scanner. As technology improved, J. R. moved to digital capture and outputting his files on a wide-format inkjet printer. These days, J. R.'s studio in Sarasota is 100% digital.

For the intermediate and advanced attendees, J. R. demonstrated how he quickly and easily switches heads to correct for blinks and bad expressions. Anything is easy to do if you know how to do it. If you were not familiar with J. R.'s technique, you probably thought it was difficult. But after the demonstration, we all found out just how easy it is.

Many thanks go to J. R. for sharing.

January Raw Print Competition

Points are earned each month for entering the Raw Print Competition that count toward the Top 10 Photographer of the Year.

The winner of the analog raw print competition was Magaly Alvarado with her image of the spiral staircase. The winner of the digital raw print competition was Willie Hill with his portrait of an expecting mother.
