It is always a great feeling to see your work printed in a magazine. Whether it is a cover, an advertisement, or an editorial spread, the rewards are great when the magazine reaches the newstands.

Anthony Proenza is the Art Director of Aventura Magazine. In his role as the Art Director, Anthony works closely with photographers and graphic designers to ensure that the artistic and creative needs of the magazine are met. Additionally, Anthony is a Photoshop expert.

Anthony's program will cover how to develop an editorial style that is suitable for magazine publication, guidelines for the submission of images for publication, and tips on working with an Art Director.

Mr. Proenza will be providing FREE portfolio evaluations between 7:00 and 8:00 pm so be sure to arrive early.

May's Program - Salon Competition
 Date: Wednesday May 12, 2004
Time: 7:00 pm Deadline for Entries
Location: Kovens Conference Center

Please note that the May meeting has been moved up one week so as not to conflict with the Florida School.

New Rule For Salon Entries

At the April Board Meeting, the Board of Directors passed a resolution concerning late entries for Salon entries. In the past, the deadline for entries was 7:00 pm. The new resolution allows entries to be accepted between 7:01 pm and 7:30 pm with the payment of an additional $20 late entry fee. NO ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER 7:30 PM.

As we all know, it is expensive to participate in Salon Competition. The best way to AVOID the additional fees is to submit your entries before the 7:00 pm deadline. The Board highly recommends that if you think that if you anticipate that you may not be able to meet the 7:00 pm deadline that you arrange to have your Salon entries delivered by another member who plans to arrive on time.

Membership

Please welcome new members Myron Stinson and Gregory Roland. Sybilia Moreno has applied as an Associate Member and is being published for comment.

 President's Message

Not only is the Professional Photographers Guild of Florida supported by you, but it is also here to serve you. The whole idea behind the PPGF is to add something to your business as a Professional Photographer and the industry in general.

When it comes to programs, your board of directors try to bring in speakers that we feel will offer all of our members interesting, informative and varied subjects to hear about. Of course lately we have had a lot of programs regarding digital technology but this is mainly because our profession has gone through the biggest transformation ever in the history of photography, well with the exception of perhaps color film.

We certainly hope that the PPGF has provided a valuable resource for everyone as digital shooting and a digital workflow takes over. If there are specific areas that you want to know more about, let us know and we will try to find speakers that cover those areas. Also, certainly feel free to send e-mails to any members that you think may have information that may help you.

Another area that I see as sneaking up on many of us is the internet. I am starting to see many new photographers that I have never heard of. A lot of these new, young photographers are using the internet as their storefront, as their retail space. Brides are really using the web to find vendors and they are very willing to hire someone who is only in the business for a couple of years because they offer a different style of wedding photography. No longer is a nice, well decorated studio required, or even a nice, well decorated room in your home. What many brides see is a well spoken, talented photographer with a dynamite web site that comes to see the clients at the clients home. This new generation of photographer is not something to overlook as new members of our profession and new competition.

I think the bottom line is that it is time to think differently. Time to make sure we are not being complacent by not changing with the times. We all need to constantly see what is new out there and choose new techniques and marketing that may work for you.
